How to keep your stainless steel drink bottles clean
It’s important to know how to care for your stainless steel water bottles. A simple formula for a great result is:
- Dilute 12 tablespoons of vinegar with a cup of water (or create a paste with the water and baking soda)
- Pour the solution into the bottle and let it sit for 15 minutes
- Pour out the contents and use a cleaning tool (like a toothbrush) to clean the inside.
What does BPA-free mean?
Bisphenol A is an organic synthetic compound used by food and beverage companies to line the inside of plastic packaging, helping to preserve the products contained within. In the last decade, there has been much debate over the effects that BPA can potentially have on the human body when ingested through food and beverage products. Many health organisations and governments around the world have banned the use of BPA in infant food containers and drink bottles, as there is some evidence to suggest that it could be harmful to developing unborn babies and infants.
Filtered water is best
In Australia we are very fortunate that the quality of the drinking water we can readily get from our household taps is of great quality. Never the less, more and more people prefer filtered water. Those inclined to choose filtered water have house hold filtering systems offering great purity. These people are also more inclined to choose to drink from a purchased drink bottle or one received from an event they attended. It is recommended that the water in a drink bottle is changed every 4-8 hours, if refrigerated, it can last up to 4-5 days. Where possible try to keep your water bottle out of direct sunlight.
Shaker bottles – what are they?
Shaker bottles are now the ‘What’s Hot’ right now drink bottle. Chosen by those sports enthusiasts who need their training supplements or protein powders fresh and on the go. Inside shaker bottles is a patented BlenderBall wire whisk made of surgical-grade stainless steel, this aids in the mixing process for a smoother consistency for all drinks. Water Bottle Sizes and Lid types
Water bottles will come in a variety of sizes and the ones you choose should reflect the expected use. The most common size is 750ml, but variations can be found from 350ml to the 2 and 4 litre variety. Other things to look for are the type of drinking nozzle of the bottle and importantly one with a secure lid that does not leak; screw on lids are prefered for hot liquids and the common push down lid can be found being used by cyclists and gym enthusiasts.
